‘Young People working together to ‘Create the Change’
We are delighted to share the link to the ‘Create the Change’ song which includes powerful messages for young people to reflect on and consider positive steps towards emotional wellbeing.
The idea for the song originated from the Unlocking Potential project in The St Lawrence’s Academy (TSLA) with four students who wanted to raise awareness of emotional wellbeing and mental health.
The development of ‘Create the Change’, which was led by TSLA and supported by the North Lincolnshire Youth Council (NLYC), has been a really collaborative project and showcases the innovation and talent of local young people and the power of working together to develop positive messages in a creative way.
The premise for the song was built around the positive steps within the NLYC ‘Positive Steps to Emotional Wellbeing Leaflet’. Music and lyrics were developed by young people at TSLA and finalised by members of the NLYC Positive Steps Working Group, which is a group of young people dedicated to raising awareness of positive emotional wellbeing and mental health.
The project helped to develop creative writing, literacy, reflect upon positive emotional wellbeing and mental health, music, team ethos and peer support and as members of the NLYC Positive Steps Working Group, we are delighted to have been involved.
We would encourage you to share the link around your learning setting and support further distribution, discussion and consideration, for example in lessons, assemblies, on rolling screens and in individual cases. To this end, we have also re-attached links to our Positive Steps resources and the Life Central website and app.
If any young people would like to get involved in the NLYC, the NLYC’s Positive Steps Working Group or any further young voice activities or for more information, please contact the Participation Team on 01724 298440 or via young.voice@northlincs.gov.uk.
